Spring Cleaning for your Body

Most of us go running the other direction when someone mentions doing a full-body cleanse. Images of stomach cramps, constantly running to the bathroom and an overall feeling of light-headedness and headaches come to mind.

It doesn’t have to be that way. It doesn’t have to be a ‘no pain, no gain’ process. So, let’s discuss why everyone should do a body cleanse at least once if not twice a year.

If you’re experiencing some of the following symptoms, it may be time to consider a cleanse.

  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Puffy eyes
  • Bloating and gas
  • That sluggish feeling of having no energy
  • Slow moving bowels or constipation (hint: if you’re not going at least once a day – a cleanse may be for you)
  • That fuzzy feeling – you just can’t make a decision or can’t focus on a task
  • Feeling uninspired, frustrated and/or easily irritated

These are just some of the signs that your body has taken in too many toxins and isn’t eliminating them as efficiently as our bodies are designed to do when working at optimal level. But – it’s not your fault!! We live in an ever-increasingly toxic environment. Many of the toxins are abundant in the environment today and did not even exist years ago. Did you know that we have introduced over 83,000 new chemicals into commerce since 1945?? And, of those chemicals introduced into commerce, less than 10% of those chemicals have been tested on human safety??? YIKES!! These new toxins include certain pesticides, herbicides and industrial chemicals that can enter the body through food, water and our own air supply. Even the skincare we believe to be safe may not be. These toxins can and often do become trapped in the body’s organs and tissues, which contribute to the development of chronic illness. No wonder our bodies struggle to eliminate all the toxins we take in on a daily basis. We’re on toxic overload!

When I take on a new client, I always recommend a cleanse. Sometimes it can be a 3 Day Cleanse, sometimes it’s a 5 Day Cleanse. But one thing I always do for myself as well as highly recommend all my clients do is a Spring cleanse. Think about what we do over the winter months; we hunker down, hibernate, eat rich, warm, comforting foods and don’t necessarily exercise or take good care of our bodies. And like I mentioned, ridding the body of environmental toxins and taking an over-all ‘lighter/healthier’ approach to eating is exactly what our bodies crave in the Springtime.
