Every Spring, since the beginning of mankind, people have turned to cleanses to rid their body of the toxins that have built up over time. Early philosophers and sages used fasting or cleansing for health and enlightenment. Many religious and spiritual groups fast every spring around the Spring Equinox. Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism – all fast or cleanse (and usually 2x a year). Some say it brings them closer to spiritual enlightenment. I recommend my clients do a cleanse early in Spring, to release built up toxins that have accumulated over the course of the long winter months. Think about it, we eat heavy soups and stews, rich beverages (hot chocolate) and do a bit of cocooning.
The definition of cocoon: envelop or surround in a protective or comforting way. Yep – that’s us, that’s what we do…all winter long.
Spring is a time to shed that winter coat and lighten up!
Day 2 was very similar to Day 1 but I did mix up the meals a bit. The directions tell you, each day, consume 2 Protein Powder shakes, 2 capsule packets, and one healthy meal that is most convenient to your daily schedule. So, you can eat breakfast, if you choose to do so, and have a meal replacement shake for lunch and dinner. Or, eat dinner and have a meal replacement shake for breakfast and dinner. Yesterday, I was able to have lunch with my youngest son which is always a treat for me. Getting together in the week and having a lunch with any of my sons always brightens my day so I never pass up the opportunity!
For lunch, we chose Mexican, my son and I both love Mexican! He ordered guacamole but I didn’t panic. Having the salty, crunch chips there was not a distraction for me at all. I ordered sliced orange and red peppers do eat the guac with and it was delicious! My son even stopped eating the chips and went for the peppers. I ordered a heaping mixed greens salad with organic chicken and ate until I was full. The beauty of this particular cleanse is – you’re not food deprived at all.
I don’t think I drank as much water throughout the day as I should have because I wasn’t peeing as much as Day 1. And, I’m starting to feel a bit bloated this morning because I didn’t poop yesterday…hmmmm. I’m sure it’s because my food intake has been cut considerably.
I did snack at 4pm – nuts and seeds, my usual ‘go to’.
I was a bit hungry though, at 10pm. So, I think I’ll stick to having the protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and then eat a healthy meal for dinner. It just works for me.
I do need to incorporate a bit of exercise into this mix. I think I’ll head to yoga tomorrow 😊
The good news is, I didn’t have any caffeine yesterday and no headache! Whew!! I do miss my coffee though. And don’t misunderstand, I’m not one who needs that jolt of adrenaline in the morning, I just LOVE the taste!
Today I’ll share some of their suggestions for healthy food and snack options. Tomorrow I’ll share more to give you a better idea of how subtle this cleanse actually is.
